Our R&D department of East-West Seed group in Nanning, Guangxi offers a position for a Pathologist for our Farm in Nanning.
JOB OBJECTIVE:
The Pathologist will be responsible for the following: 1) development of diagnostic techniques for vegetable diseases and routine diagnosis of vegetable diseases in both research farms and farmers’ fields; 2) development of disease screening protocols and routine implementation of screening programs to support breeding for resistance programs in China; 3) write development project proposals and progress reports, as maybe required by Management, and 4) support training and extension activities (e.g. disease survey), as maybe required.
JOB LOCATION: R&D Nanning Station, East-West Seed Company, China
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
This position is responsible for the following Key Results and Activities:
The development of disease screening protocols to support breeding for disease resistance in China.
Plan and undertake routine laboratory and field activities related to routine plant disease diagnosis and routine seedling screening.
Training and supervision of technicians and workers under his/her supervision.
The organisation and maintainence of laboratory, screenhouse and field facilities.
Responsible for the inventory and maintenance of laboratory chemicals, reagents and other supplies.
Planning and preparation of pathology related programs.
Prepare and submit regular reports on plant pathology activities to the EW Group Head ?Pathology and ROM (China).
Training and supervision of other plant pathology staff, as maybe required.
Maintain a current awareness on plant pathology developments.
Attend workshops and conferences as required.
Initiate contact with other researchers as required.
QUALIFICATIONS:
Background
At least B.S. degree in Agriculture, (M.S. /PhD degree is an advantage) with specialization in Plant Pathology with at least 3 years relevant experience on plant disease diagnosis, disease screening and other pathology-related activities. Physically fit/capable of handling the required field, screenhouse and laboratory activities.

Capable and willing to undertake work with limited supervision.
Capable of understanding research protocols.
Capable of interacting and discussing basic protocols and results with other laboratory researchers.
Capable of interacting and communicating with other company staff.
Capable of basic communication in English (oral and written).
Knowledgeable in computer programs and software.
Organized, neat and honest.
